A singer/entertainer with a flair for drama, dark good looks, and a personality that'll make you feel right at home.....
Danny Grae grew up in the Motor City of Detroit. The “Motown Sound” was in its heyday then and Danny considers it to be his first major musical influence. Throughout high school Danny performed with the choir and a select madrigal group. He also acted and sang in all of the high school plays and was given the “Dramatics Achievement Award” by his acting coach. After graduating high school, Danny joined a local theater group, but soon after felt the bright lights of Broadway beckoning. Just turning 19 years old, he moved to New York City to make his mark as an actor.
But as fate would have it, Danny soon found that his true passion was in singing. So he began working with Lynda Sharman - one of the best voice teachers in New York. Years of classical voice training has helped develop what has been described as a rich “chocolate brown” voice that is equally comfortable belting out a classic rock 'n' roll song as well as croonin' one of yester year's popular standards.
Danny started out singing popular cover songs in cabarets. Then one hot summer night, he saw the movie “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and realized that he truly enjoyed country music. Through the movie he discovered Patsy Cline and on his own found Hank Williams and Dolly Parton - all strong musical influences. But was the New York audience ready for a country singer from the Midwest? Danny gave it his best shot, but it wasn’t an easy sell. So, encouraged by his “look” he switched gears to rock music which was very popular in New York clubs at the time. However, while making the rounds of the rock clubs, he continued listening to country music. Danny began listening to country artist K.T. Oslin and through her music realized that his artistic heart was still into country music. He had read that K.T. was an actress for several years and had recently switched gears back to country music. It was the push that he needed to follow his heart and do the same. New York was starting to warm up to country music then, so the timing seemed perfect. Danny felt that with his background in country, rock and Motown that he could come up with a sound that would complement today’s country music yet be true to country’s roots. It turned out to be a good decision.
After going back to country music, Danny hooked up with the late country legend Colonel Buster Doss and Stardust Records. Many of Danny’s recordings have been heard on several Stardust CD compilations and charted on many independent radio stations in the United States and abroad. He is also the recipient of several Nashville King Eagle Awards including “Country Male Rising Star Of The Year” for 2003.
In recent years, Danny has been performing locally along with a guitarist at Senior Centers/Homes. The response to the shows has been overwhelming and the number of shows has grown extensively over the last several years. It has become a passionate form of performing that Danny truly enjoys and embraces. So much so that he decided to include teaching Chair Zumba classes as part of his offerings to these Senior Centers/Homes. The residents fully enjoy both aspects of Danny’s fun and engaging personality. It’s a win-win all around!
